Well its Wednesday, and that means
I’m on my weekend. Pretty cool idea meaning now I have to find things to do on
Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday so I feel justified in cramming 6 courses
in on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday. Today I got fleeced by the garda, it
was registration day so those 300 euros just went flying by, where moments
before I had been reading about jack Kerouac alone in a big sur cabin pondering
big waves and rocks and cliffs and drops, I stumbled into the office and meekly
gave up hundreds of dollars. Money doesn’t really mean much here, or that is to
say it could mean everything, but because it is so I can’t tell how this place
works. Everything costs money but most people don’t have too much of it yea? So
then how does it work. The efficiency of the police station so far has been
unrivaled in all other matters here, especially concerning class registration
and learning how to use the printing facilities in the library and the queues
to talk to the IT desk but I figured it
all out. So far I’ve read Amazon Beaming
The Old Man and the Sea, focus, half of For whom the bell tolls but then it was due and i didnt feel like renewing it though i should it was super good
And a few chapters into Big Sur
On my shelf is The Pearl,
which somehow I’ve never read still. All these are the result of finding the
American literature section in the library, and it seems they have the classic
authors of the 20th century all in a sort of equalizing order. Just
ate my third bowl of pasta in two days, I made a whole pack for dinner last
night with a runny red sauce with peppers and mushrooms and carrots.
Alternately eating hot and cold, it was pretty good and I still got a bit more
for dinner tonight I added a half can of tuna fish to spice it up for lunch
ensuring proper protein indeed…
Everyone says that studying abroad
is the best experience of college, and whoever goes, when they come back, say
they literally had the best time. That’s a lot of expectations! I mean its been
good for sure, and learning other cultures and being in Europe being in Ireland
all that is dandy, but the best part so far has been seeing Connemara so I
think for me to come around to that glowing reputation ill need to continue getting
out of the crowded growing city that is Galway. but being in galway has been fun too, loads of fun listening to led zeppelin and old crow medicine show one night and then traditional irish music another, but its different than seeing the seas and the skies kiss.
Tomorrow I have no class and I was
thinking about trying to just thumb a ride down to clifden to see what was up
over there. Its right on the coast, and has the famous sky road over there. I
have no tent, no sleeping bag, no anything but things might get figured out. I
haven’t seen loads of hitchhikers around, but ive been in the city, and not
between towns on highways, so ill just have to check up on the best place to
stand and make sure I have a guarda chuva.
Next week going to London. Not sure
where im staying exactly, but feeling confident it will get worked out. printed up my boarding pass and bus ticket today, so i know i'll at least be able to get there.
this blog might change direction, and instead of pointing out small things that often go unnoticed, it will be about the tippity tap of how and when and where my fingers decide to go. so i guess it might still have some elements of old, but might also just be a weighty written word.
