The Future

Pay attention to what's next. Look beyond your immediate satisfaction. Think past this morning, this evening, this night.

Or don't.

You don't have to. It's inconvenient, after all.

Better to demand your needs are met immediately. Any solution that requires longer than immediately simply will not do. It's important, after all.

It's important because you're important. And you're important because - wait hold on hold on hold on. Please hold.

Every moment, every day of your life. This is not your life. I don't cry tears in the middle of the night because you are so important. I don't always think about my life because you are so important. Some day the sky will open up and shine the light onto your shadows. The light will shine onto the puddle of my tears, heating and steaming until they evaporate and my name will be called, before your name.

I don't know if you can imagine this day. Because you are so important, after all. But I've always been here. My arms have always been open. This is me. You couldn't do it without me, and you wouldn't want to do it without me. Even if you think you do.

We both know you need me. You need me more than I need you. Right now, you don't know that because you are too busy to think about it. You build on the present but cry when your tower collapses to the past. I build on the present and shriek with laughter when the tower goes so high I can't even see the top. I am comfortable not knowing what is up there. Are you?

If I cannot see the top, well it means someone else is working on it. It means the future is happening. And while you work on the past, I will stand here quietly with my hands raised to the sky, murmuring, murmuring, murmuring.

You are in the past. We are in the present. I am in the future.

The past is stuck, mired in swamps of sweet, sickly whispers. What the fuck right? Can you stop this?
no.
You know why this cannot stop right now. Because the stop button is broken. It actually has always been broken, but sometimes people offer the stop button to pretend. People like pretend. The truth is there is only a play button. Because the past is stopped. The past is broken, the present is playing, and nothing can stop it.
